Maracaibo is the city where it all began.
That is where the Fundación para el Trasplante de Médula Ósea was born, our twin in Venezuela, and that is where the journey of our patients starts.
And what about Bologna? This city represents for us a memorable accomplishment, not only for our little patients, but also for a journey started in Venezuela almost 20 years ago.
In fact, from now on, we can count again on the cooperation of one of the most specialized hospitals treating oncological and haematological diseases: the A.O.U. Policlinico Sant'Orsola Malpighi.
“Thanks to this agreement, we opened the way to hope, a wide path is now open again for our children, who will have the opportunity to be treated and transplanted in Italy: a country full of love and solidarity".
With these words, our President, Mrs. Mercedes Elena Álvarez, commented with pride and satisfaction the agreement signed between ATMO Onlus, PDVSA and the "Azienda Ospedaliera Universitaria Policlinico Sant’Orsola Malpighi", the objective of which is to extend the cure to Venezuelan patients assisted by our international health cooperation program.
“The number of patients who turn to us is growing fast (currently in Italy we are hosting 78 patients and 113 relatives) and, in order to offer a concrete response to their cure and accomodation needs, we are redoubling our efforts to give a chance for life to Venezuelan people, among which many children, who need a bone marrow transplant”, said our CEO, Enrica Giavatto.
Thanks to this partnership, the A.O.U. Policlinico Sant’Orsola Malpighi will be able to host 20-30 children per year, in addition to the twelve Hospitals which form the backbone of our humanitarian program, carried out with our partner PDVSA, the main Venezuelan company that for many years is on our side in the struggle against childhood cancer.
The new agreement will allow our patients to benefit from a 360-degree support, thanks to the partnership with AGEOP Organization, that since 1981 takes care of the little oncological patients and their families who come from outside Bologna.
We are really happy to restart this journey together with our patients and our precious partners, who are going to help us in reaching our main and ambitious goal:
give a chance for life to Venezuelan children who need a bone marrow transplant.
